Regenerative Medicine

Regenerative medicine is a cutting-edge form of treatment in Orthopedics that involves the body’s own natural healing capabilities. We can utilize your body’s platelets, drawn from blood, or regenerative cells, harvested from bone marrow. These are injected into your injured areas. This has been shown to decrease inflammation and pain, stimulate healing, and speed repair for bone, muscle, joint, ligament and soft tissue injuries.

These treatments can be considered for patients who have tried conventional treatments, such as anti-inflammatory medications, cortisone injections, physical therapy and surgery. These are safe alternative methods that utilize your own body’s cells, hence these are called ‘biologics’.

Initial consultation, in office or by telemedicine, will include an exam, review of imaging studies, and explore individualized treatment plans for each patient. Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) and/or regenerative cells may be recommended based upon severity of your problem. These options include stand-alone treatment in the office, or when indicated, in a hospital setting. Use of a hospital facility allows for sedation, and vital sign monitoring by an anesthesiology specialist. Occasionally, a surgical procedure may be combined with the biologic injections. Most are in- and -out procedures that do not require an overnight stay, but provide the safety needed for some elderly or high- risk cardiopulmonary patients in the hospital setting.

New Treatments - New Technology

An initial consultation can explore individualized treatment plans, which may help avoid surgery or be used as an adjunct to a planned procedure. A determination can be made if the procedure is to be done in an office or in a hospital setting. Procedure costs will vary based upon your insurance, co-pays, deductibles, whether one or two body areas are chosen, and where your particular procedure is performed.
